Magnolia Laurie received her BA in Critical Social Thought from Mount Holyoke College and her MFA from the Mount Royal School of Art at the Maryland Institute College of Art. She is a former Hamiltonian Fellow from 2009-2011 and was a Platform Artist at the 2012 and 2013 (e)merge Art Fair in DC. She has been awarded fellowships and residencies from the Vermont Studio Center, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, the Creative Alliance in Baltimore, and the Jentel Foundation in Wyoming. Magnolia has also been a recipient of the Individual Artist Grant from the Creative Baltimore Fund in 2009 and Maryland State Arts Council in 2011, a finalist for the Trawick Prize in 2010 and Bethesda Painting Award 2009. Her recent exhibitions include: what could hold us together at frosch & portmann in NY, with a tug and a hold at VisArts in MD, The Big Reveal at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, MO and the WPA’s Options 13 at the Arlington Arts Center in VA. Magnolia lives in Baltimore, MD and is a professor at Maryland Institute College of Art and American University in DC.
