Chesapeake Sustainable Business Alliance
Green Mondays / November 2, 2009 / 6 - 9pm
We invite you to join us in the gallery November 2, for the monthly Chesapeake Sustainable Business Alliance networking meeting and to experience our new space. As business owner of both jordan faye contemporary and Block Events, we advocate principles of sustainability. We foster values, which seem to be disregarded or forgotten in contemporary society. In an age of technology, everything is so fast-paced that we forget to slow down and appreciate the innate beauty of our surroundings. As artists we see differently. The quiet of nature, the joy of a dinner cooked and shared with friends, the savor of food grown locally, bought directly from the farmer, the intimacy of a space well appointed with furniture, art, light. We bring these things together in our new but very old library building, featuring contemporary art from primarily local, emerging artists, and events planned by conscious individuals who focus on green, local, and sustainable practices without sacrificing grace or beauty.
View the latest installation, ORBS, by James Long. Both lusterous and playful, James Long's work portrays influences of minimalism and craft. His most recent body of work involves explorations in solid wood of a simple shape: the orb. The subtle beauty in his work is seen through the sensual nature: both in form and finish. (Orb Exhibition extended through November 15). Hanging in the main gallery are new paintings by Treva Elwood, also on view thru November 15.
