Jordan Faye Contemporary is thrilled to present James Long :: Orbs, his first solo sculpture exhibition in our new space.
We are located in the old enoch pratt library, located in the heart of federal hill at 1401 Light Street Baltimore, MD 21230.
After living in Ghana, West Africa and India, James Long relocated to Baltimore in 2004. Long received his BFA in sculpture from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1994, his MFA in sculpture from Bowling Green State University in 1996, and his MA in art education from Teachers College, Columbia University in 2003. Long was a recipient of a Peace Corps Fellowship and an American India Foundation Fellowship for his work in art education. Long has exhibited his work at the Austin Museum of Art in Austin Texas, Ghana's National Museum, and Columbia University in New York City. He’s shown with Gallery International and Gallery Imperato in Baltimore, MD and has been represented by Jordan Faye Contemporary since November 2006. This past summer he was awarded a James Renwick Alliance award for excellence in wood. His upcoming solo exhibition will open September 23, 2009 at Be:: a new arts venue & exhibition space in Federal Hill. This will be the premiere exhibition for Be at the old Enoch Pratt Free Library, 1401 Light Street, Baltimore, MD.
Both lusterous and playful, James Long’s work portrays influences of minimalism and craft. His most recent body of work involves explorations in solid wood of a simple shape: the orb. This upcoming exhibition Orbs, is comprised of a multiplicity of large wooden orbs: exploring scale, medium, and the relationship when they are viewed both individually and as a whole. The subtle beauty in his work is seen through the sensual nature: both in form and finish. Be is thrilled to be showing James Long: Orbs thru October 22, 2009.
